A personal journey of recovery will be shared at Logan Art Gallery this weekend.
Shailer Park resident and singer-songwriter and poet Milena Cifal will discuss losing her former home, musical instruments and beloved parrots in the Mallacoota bushfires in Victoria on New Year’s Eve 2019.
Ms Cifal has written a heartfelt book, sharing her personal journey towards recovery through writing, poetry, lyrics, and photography.
The book is set against the backdrop of an unprecedented bushfire season and the coronavirus pandemic.
Ms Cifal will share her personal journey at a book launch and performance of Mallacoota Time: the lost summer 2020 from 2pm to 3.30pm this Saturday (May 15).
Life, loss and renewal are covered in the book about the summer in which more than 17 million hectares was burnt in six Australian states, 33 people died, more than 3000 homes were destroyed and billions of birds and animals were killed.
Mallacoota Time highlights some of the personal stories behind those numbers and Ms Cifal’s journey through the grief of the loss of her red cedar cottage, animals and the life she had known.
Copies of the book will be on sale at Saturday’s free event which includes a signing session.
