The State Flying Squad (SFS) recently completed a deployment to the Wide Bay region, with officers based out of Bundaberg and Hervey Bay, to support local police and help make the community safer.
Last month, the Squad charged 45 people with 183 charges, ranging from property crime to drug and domestic violence offences.
The Squad provided an investigative surge capacity, supporting local policing activities including the execution of search warrants, and conducting proactive operations and high-visibility patrols from 15 – 22 July
Officers from the Squad’s in-built intelligence unit also deployed to the region, to assist in identifying and locating targets, and provide real-time information to help apprehend serious offenders who continue to cause harm to the Wide Bay community.
During the deployment, SFS investigators assisted the Hervey Bay Tactical Crime Squad (TCS), Dog Squad and local police with the arrest of a 19-year-old Urangan man.
TCS officers forced entry into an Urangan residence, before the man allegedly ran, but was located and apprehended by police on a nearby property.
He was charged with one count each of obstruct police and wilful damage.
He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on 10 August.
On another occasion, SFS officers and local police executed an arrest warrant for a juvenile at a Granville residence.
He was charged with 11 counts of stealing, 3 counts of fraud and one count each of enter and commit, wilful damage and obstruct police.
The juvenile was remanded in custody and was expected to appear in Maryborough Children’s Court on 4 August.
While stationed in Bundaberg, SFS officers also executed a search warrant at a Kepnock residence, allegedly locating and seizing dangerous drugs.
A 24-year-old Kepnock man was charged with 56 counts of supply drugs, and one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs and contravene access order.
Detective Inspector Joe Nixon said the Squad is focused on deploying into crime hotspots across the state as needed to deter further criminal behaviour.
“We support local police and other specialist capability policing units by increasing police visibility with extra boots on the ground.
“We’ll remain committed to keeping Queensland communities safe and I look forward to seeing these fantastic results continue, wherever we deploy.”
