The Tasmanian Government is continuing its support of our inland freshwater recreational fishery, once again waiving the junior freshwater angling fees for the upcoming 2026-27 angling season.
Junior anglers, aged 14 to 17 years old, can apply for their required free licence through the Inland Fisheries Service (IFS) website, or via an agent. Those under 14 years of age are not required to hold a licence.
Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Gavin Pearce, said this is all about getting a rod in the hands of our next generations and supporting families with the cost of living.
“Fishing and Tassie go hand in hand; it’s our way of life,” Minister Pearce said.
“Inland junior angling licences have been made free for more than half a decade, providing more opportunity for our young Tasmanians to get involved in recreational freshwater fishing.
“In addition to the free licences for our junior anglers, we’re also continuing to offer discounted young adult licences for 18 to 21-year-olds.
“For the first time this season, our Government is delivering discounted freshwater angling licences for anglers aged 80 years and over, delivering an important cost of living measure.
“Our Liberal Government is delivering for our recreational fishers and backing in the Tassie way of life, a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s future.”
Angling licence renewals, and new licence purchases for the 2026-27 season will be available from Wednesday 1 July 2026 on the IFS website: https://www.ifs.tas.gov.au.
