Kempsey's potholes stretch from here to Melbourne

Potholes are a local problem covering enough road to get you to the other end of Australia.

Just like you, the people repairing roads are humans. These three are Frank, Tash and James and are just one of the crews who spend their work days fixing up our many kilometres of roads.

Kempsey Shire Council Coordinator Maintenance Response, Garick Cahill, said the shire’s road network is made up of around 672 kilometres of sealed and 587 kilometres of unsealed roads.

“We look after a road network so massive that its length is similar of that from Kempsey to Melbourne,” said Mr Cahill.

“Many residents ask why we can’t just reconstruct these damaged roads but at an average cost of $1 million per kilometre, it’s not financially sustainable solution.”

The entire road network has been impacted by wet weather and repairs are prioritised based on pre-determined factors such as road classification, traffic volumes and speed limits.

Please know that filling potholes is a priority to us and we are working hard to get complete repairs when and where we can. We, again, just ask for your patience and understanding at this difficult time.
