Kingston lights up Mentone

Mentone Piazza is set to sparkle when its 3.5 metre Christmas tree is officially lit on Friday 29 November as part of the City of Kingston’s Christmas in Mentone celebration.

The family-friendly event will spread Christmas cheer with kids’ activities, roving performers, face painting, music and entertainment from 3pm – 8pm, culminating with a Christmas carols performance from the Chelsea Concert Band.

The Christmas tree lighting ceremony will kick-off at 6.45pm.

Kingston Mayor Cr Georgina Oxley said the Christmas spirit will be alive in Mentone with the community turning out to celebrate the start of the festive season.

“This free local event has plenty on offer for all ages with fantastic performers, face painting and craft activities, and a screening of Elf from 5.15pm complete with bean bags to settle in with.”

“Of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without a visit from Santa and you can get your own instant-print photo with him too.”

A special post box to the North Pole will also be onsite for posting letters to Santa just in time for Christmas.

This event is being held in conjunction with the Level Crossing Removal Project’s Mentone Garden Party in the Mentone Station Gardens, where local traders will be handing out free samples.

Event Schedule:

  • 3pm – Entertainment starts: face painting, colouring-in and roving entertainers
  • 3:15pm – Photos with Santa
  • 5:15pm – Screening of Christmas movie: Elf
  • 6:45pm – Christmas tree lighting ceremony
  • 7pm – Chelsea Concert Band performance and Christmas carols
