Talented Indigenous Australia singer/song-writer Kutcha Edwards will take to the Mildura Arts Centre (MAC) stage this month, bringing his powerful new music theatre creation Circling Time – Songs & Stories to the region.

Described by Rhythms Magazine as “quite possibly the finest contemporary singer of his generation”, Kutcha will perform at MAC on Tuesday 21 June at 7.30pm.

As part of his visit to the region, MAC has arranged for Kutcha to conduct a singing workshop with all-inclusive local community choir SunRaysed Voices the day before his performance, on Monday 20 June.

This will be followed by a once-in-a-lifetime chance for the choir to perform alongside the artist in front of a live audience the following night.

Councillor for Arts, Culture and Heritage Helen Healy said the workshop would be a unique opportunity for SunRaysed Voices members to spend time and learn from one of Australia’s most talented artists.

“This is an amazing opportunity for the SunRaysed Voices choir, as aside from being able to meet Kutcha and gain an insight into his story and his music, they’ll also take to the stage with him the following night for the last song of his set,” Cr Healy said.

“I’m sure it will be something choir members, and the audience, will remember for some time.”

Kutcha’s new theatre creation draws its essence from the songs on his latest album, which has received rave reviews, described as “profound and a timely reminder of the incredible depth and talent of one of the most inspiring voices within the country.”

His work also offers a very personal insight for listeners.

“I’m telling my story, I believe I’m telling my family’s story,” Kutcha said.

”Justice, heritage, forgiveness – all are words that resonate with me deeply. It’s my role to give songs meaning so that they can continue to connect my family and all my clans to Country.

“This album is filled with spirit. It’s this spirit that I need to share and pass on so we can begin to heal and understand what our ancestors have passed on to us… the true meaning of ‘Circling Time’.”
