Federal Labor’s long awaited Infrastructure Review has delivered a devastating blow to the Beveridge Intermodal Freight Terminal (BIFT), which has cut $61.8 million for a Business Case for Melbourne Inland Rail Intermodal Terminals at Beveridge and Truganina.
Shadow Minister for Ports and Freight, Roma Britnell, said: “Jacinta Allan has failed in her duty to advocate for Victoria’s fair share and once again shown she can’t manage major projects.
“A new freight terminal in Melbourne’s north would be a significant boost for surrounding communities and take thousands of trucks off our roads.
“We have talked for long enough – it is time to take real action to address supply chain issues and put downward pressure on prices. Abandoning crucial freight links means Labor are abandoning dealing with the cost of living.”
Member for Northern Metropolitan Region, Evan Mulholland, said: “Both State and Federal Labor have abandoned the Beveridge Intermodal Freight Terminal.
“Building a new freight terminal in Beveridge would take over 100,000 trucks off local roads once fully operational and support 20,000 local jobs in Melbourne’s outer north that has been starved of employment opportunities.
“The Liberals and Nationals stumped up investment and have always backed the BIFT, while Premier Jacinta Allan, Ros Spence, Lauren Kathage and Rob Mitchell have dithered and delayed this game changing project.”
