Labor raises White flag

Felix Ellis,Liberal Member for Braddon

Rebecca White’s embarrassingly lacklustre State of the State reply has once again confirmed she is on borrowed time as Labor Leader.

Ms White spent her entire reply talking the State down, offering no alternative vision, policies, or plan for our State.

In fact, Ms White said absolutely nothing about what her party would do differently for the people of Tasmania – instead, she wasted 40 minutes on personal attacks on members, while whingeing, criticising, and complaining.

By contrast, the Premier yesterday laid out a comprehensive, aspirational vision to secure Tasmania’s future and give Tasmanians the services and the infrastructure they deserve in health, education, housing, and vital community services and facilities.

“Labor wasn’t at its best in 2021,” was the biggest understatement of the lacklustre reply. Their start to 2022 has continued where they left off in 2021 with all their 14 questions in Parliament so far devoted to baseless smears, rather than focusing on issues that are important to the State in State of the State week.

Exiled crossbencher David O’Byrne was no doubt smiling under his white mask as Ms White claimed she led a united team.

Ms White has clearly given up, and it’s only a matter of time before leader-in-waiting Dean Winter makes his move.
