Labor Ramps up Mediscare as Polling Day Approaches

Days out from the election, Labor is re-inventing its Mediscare campaign.

This time, the target is a misleading campaign on Victorian hospital funding.

FACT:

  • Morrison Government funding for Victoria has increased every year and continues to rise
  • Funding for public hospitals in the Victoria has increased from $3.2 billion under Labor in 2013 to $5.4 billion in 2018-19 (growing by 67%)
  • Funding will increase to $7.1 billion by the end of the new national hospitals agreement in 2024-25.

FACT:

Bill Shorten will provide no further funding within the new agreement.

Bill Shorten is deceiving not only the people of Victoria, but also Premier Daniel Andrews, who is using taxpayers’ funding to run a blatantly political campaign to back in his Labor mates.

The only cuts being suffered are by the taxpayers’ of Victoria who are having their money diverted to this campaign rather than funding services.

FACT:

In addition to the record hospital investment, the Morrison Government will deliver projects including:

  • $80 million for the Peter MacCallum Comprehensive Cancer Centre to deliver car-t immunotherapy for cancer patients
  • $40 million for new paediatric emergency departments at Geelong, Maroonah, Frankston and Casey Hospitals
  • $50 million for a new women and children’s hospital at Geelong
  • $30 million for St Vincent’s Hospital’s Aikenhead Centre for Medical Discovery
  • $25 million for a new Drug Discovery Centre at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute
  • $32 million for a new medical Health Futures Hub, led by Peninsula Health and Monash University based in Frankston
  • $30 million for a hospital in Swan Hill
  • $30 million for Goulburn Valley Base Hospital
  • $14.5 million for Wodonga Hospital

The Morrison Government is committed to delivering a world class health system, supported by quality care, breakthrough research and funding the essential medicines which patients need.

In contrast, Bill Shorten, when he was Assistant Treasurer, stopped listing medicines because he couldn’t manage the budget.
