Labor should be ashamed as local road funding slashed

NSW Nationals

Federal Nationals Member for Page Kevin Hogan says Labor has abandoned the region after its decision to axe funding designed to improve safety on the Bruxner Highway between Sneaths Road at Wollongbar and Kadina Street at Goonellabah.

The $8.5 million upgrade was to have been jointly funded by the Commonwealth and the state, but the funding has been axed following the Labor Government’s infrastructure review

Mr Hogan said this section of road has a fatal and serious injury crash rate more than eight times higher than similar roads across the state.

“Labor doesn’t care about our community or the safety of people in the 9,000 vehicles who use that stretch of road every day,” Mr Hogan said.

“Federal Labor and the Labor state government should be ashamed of themselves – this stretch of road has a terrible history.

“Labor has deserted our region. They aren’t doing anything to make our roads safer, they do nothing about cost of living, and they don’t do anything to keep our country safe.”

Mr Hogan said he will continue to push for this critical funding to improve road safety.
