The Primary Industry and Forestry Industry Advisory Council met today in Campbell Town to further its work on policy to address the numerous challenges that face the primary industries and forestry sectors.
The Council is independently chaired by Richard Bovill and made up of key stakeholders from the agriculture, fisheries, food and forestry industries.
Shadow Minister for Primary Industries, Fisheries and Water, Shane Broad, said the meeting exposed key areas in need of attention.
“The Industry Advisory Council highlighted the need to key infrastructure investments in bridges, roads and at the Burnie Port which are acting as a bottleneck on our key producers’ ability to grow their businesses and provide employment opportunities,” Dr Broad said.
“Through our IAC process Labor has listened to industry experts and developed and adopted policy like our Ag Kickstarter policy and TAFE training package, which will provide a pathway for the next generation of agriculture workers and was well received by industry representatives.
“The primary industries and forestry sector are critical for promoting the Tasmanian brand on the international market and Labor will continue to focus on key areas highlighted by the IAC to support the state’s primary producers achieve growth.”
