Labor welcomes mine progress on West Coast

Tasmanian Labor
  • Riley mine to create 80-100 jobs
  • Greens need to stop standing in the way of jobs
  • Shadow Resources Minister Shane Broad has welcomed Venture Minerals’ decision to proceed with its mining operations on the West Coast.

“This announcement that the Riley mine is moving forward shows confidence in Tasmania’s mining industry,” Dr Broad said.

“Once the necessary approvals have been secured, the Greens and their mates must get out of the way and let people get to work.

“Under Will Hodgman the West Coast has the one of the highest jobless rates of any local government area in the State.

“In just the last month 220 people have lost their jobs in the North West and West Coast.

“The West Coast needs to make the most of exciting opportunities like this so today’s announcement should be welcomed.”
