  • Labor welcomes independent investigation involving LGH nurse
  • No stone should be left unturned in search for the truth
  • All necessary action must be taken to protect children
  • Labor has welcomed the release of the Terms of Reference for an independent investigation into historic sexual abuse allegations involving a nurse at the Launceston General Hospital.

Shadow Health Minister, Sarah Lovell MLC, said an independent investigation is the only way to address these shocking allegations.

“We are pleased to see the independent inquiry moving ahead to get to the bottom of these incredibly distressing allegations,” Ms Lovell said.

“This has been a difficult time for many people in the community and a thorough investigation in the only way this matter can be dealt with appropriately.

“We are also pleased to see a commitment to supporting anyone who comes forward with information. This will be a traumatic time for children, parents and anyone who worked with this person and they will need support to get through it.

“Staff at the LGH in particular will be finding this extremely difficult, and the Minister must ensure that all staff are easily able to access adequate mental health support without question.

“No stone should be left unturned in seeking the truth about these allegations and I look forward to the government implementing any recommendations from the inquiry to ensure this never happens again.”
