Our paramedics deserve so much better than what they’re getting from this state government.
One of the first things Labor would do if elected would be to make all the current temporary paramedics permanent.
This is such an easy thing to do and would help to attract and retain staff: to stop them leaving to obtain more secure work.
We know that there are a large number of paramedic positions unfilled and there are many staff on temporary contracts.
This is one of the many issues HACSU has highlighted in their ongoing industrial dispute with the state government.
Labor would also undertake extensive and ongoing service and workforce planning to ensure that we have the right number of paramedics, volunteers, ambulances and ambulance stations for our growing population and to meet current demand.
The lack of action on these things is symptomatic of a government that has delivered Tasmania a dysfunctional health system and has lost sight of what the key priorities for a government should be.
