Lake Illawarra police charge man after seizing more than $500,000 of illicit drugs, NSW

A man will face court today charged with commercial drug supply after about $550,000 of illicit drugs were seized on the state’s south coast yesterday.

As part of ongoing investigations into drug supply in the local area, the Lake Illawarra Police District Drug Unit executed a search warrant at a home at Warrawong, about 8am yesterday (Thursday 21 November 2019).

During the search, investigators seized 500g of methylamphetamine (ice), 500g of pseudoephedrine, 300g of heroin, and small quantities of cocaine and cannabis.

In total, the drugs have an estimated potential street value of about $550,000.

The 46-year-old male resident was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

He was charged with three counts of supply prohibited drug (commercial quantity), two counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), two counts of possess prohibited drug, conduct drug premises and deal with proceeds of crime.

The man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 22 November 2019).

Lake Illawarra Police District Crime Manager, Detective Chief Inspector Glen Broadhead, said drugs have the potential to destroy families and devastate communities.

“The supply of illicit drugs has a major impact on our community, and it simply won’t be tolerated,” Chief Inspector Broadhead said.

“Our message is simple: We will continue to target those engaging in the supply of illegal drugs, and anyone who engages in these activities will face the full brunt of the law.”
