Land for new Chittering sport and community centre

  • Three hectares of land to be made available to Shire of Chittering for on-sale to the Immaculate Heart College for the expansion of the college
  • Sale proceeds to be used by the Shire of Chittering to fund the development of a new sport and community centre
  • A three-hectare portion of Crown land in Lower Chittering can now be used for a local school expansion and the development of a new sport and community centre following a State Government land transfer.

Located behind the Immaculate Heart College near the corner of Santa Gertrudis Drive and Muchea East Road, the land was originally set aside for public recreation reserve. However, it is currently undeveloped and not being used for its designated purpose.

The parcel of land being transferred is a part of a larger reserve that the State has subdivided and made available for the Shire of Chittering to progress its plans in the Lower Chittering area.

The transfer to the Shire of Chittering means it is now able to on-sell to the Immaculate Heart College to support the expansion of the school. The proceeds from the land sale must be used for the development of the future sport and community centre on the remaining land in the reserve.

With certainty of available land, the Shire of Chittering can proceed with planning the development of its recreation facility, which will feature a football field, indoor sporting facilities, a recreation club, outdoor courts and a car park.

Immaculate Heart College is located next to the reserve and requires more land to expand as part of its transition into a K-12 school.

Prior to developing the site, the Shire of Chittering will have to obtain the necessary planning approvals for the proposed sport and community centre.

As noted by Lands Minister Rita Saffioti:

“Making this land available to the Shire of Chittering will lead to significant benefits for the local community with the development of a new sport and community centre and an opportunity for Immaculate Heart College to expand.”
