Lands Minister Ben Wyatt is today calling for Western Australian start-ups, established businesses and researchers working on innovative location-based products or services to apply for the SPUR Location Technology Accelerator program.
The accelerator program features a $25,000 grant for up to six successful applicants and access to information sessions focused on working with WA Government data and processes.
The program will provide successful applicants both seed funding and insight into WA Government location data, products, policies and processes, which are not currently available through any single source.
Applicants will need to demonstrate how their ideas harness location datasets to deliver value or improvements to government services provided for the community.
Recipients could use this opportunity to develop mobile apps, secure intellectual property rights, obtain strategic advice, adopt technological advancements, and launch new products to market.
The 2020 program is being delivered through a collaborative government-academia partnership with the Department of Finance; Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries; DevelopmentWA; and Curtin University.
Grants will be offered under three categories:
- $25,000 to a First Nations candidate funded by the Department of Finance;
- $25,000 for a research grant to a Curtin University recipient; and
- $25,000 each for the remaining four funding places.
