Last call for event holders for Seniors Festival 2022 – Wollongong

Council is calling for people, organisations, and businesses to have their event included in Wollongong’s Seniors Festival 2022.

We are looking for a range of events such as workshops, classes, or social events that will be held between 25 March to 3 April to coincide with the festival which celebrates the diversity of our older community members. Expressions of Interests are open until Thursday 27 January.

“This year’s theme is Reconnect, and the last two years have shown us there is more than one way to do this,” Wollongong City Council Manager Community Cultural and Economic Development Sue Savage said.

“We’re encouraging a mix of both virtual and face-to-face events, but with the current COVID situation, we’re focussing on smaller outdoor events where possible.

“Our older community members are one of our vulnerable groups, so we want to make sure they’re safe at our events. If you choose to put your event forward, we need to ensure it follows COVID-safe practices.”

The Seniors Festival is held annually and is for people over 60, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders over the age of 50, and people over 50 that have a lifelong disability.

“As we have done in the past, we’re looking for an array of events, like art workshops, exercise and movement classes, computer literacy classes or outdoor guided walks,” she said.

“We have a really diverse seniors community in our city with a wide range of interests. It’s important the Festival reflects a wide range of interests and offers something to inspire everyone. We want to give our seniors a greater choice in enjoying themselves in an exciting environment.”
