We are saddened to hear of the sudden passing of the Honourable Stephen Thackray, former Chief Judge of the Family Court of Western Australia and long-time Head of the Appeal Division of the Family Court of Australia.
Mr Thackray was highly regarded by the judiciary and the legal profession with vast experience in the area of family law. He had a great passion for Indigenous issues and following his retirement from the bench, quickly established himself as a leading mediator with a national practice.
In a career that spanned many decades, Mr Thackray became one of the first accredited Family Law specialists in WA, taking up his position as Chief Judge of the Family Court of Western Australia in 2007 before retiring in January 2019.
His passion, professionalism and leadership were an inspiration to all who were privileged to have worked with him.
