Lazy Labor has zero ideas for jobs and business growth

Michael Ferguson,Minister for State Growth

Labor’s dismal State of the State performance should leave Tasmanian businesses in disbelief, with not one idea put forward by the lazy party on support for businesses and the economy.

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government brought 35 costed policies and plans to Parliament this week, and the one and only idea Labor put forward isn’t even costed. What have they been doing all summer?

Under this Government, Tasmania is the nation’s economic powerhouse, with our state topping the charts in job creation, business confidence and economic growth.

This surge in confidence and activity in Tasmania is supported by our Government backing business and taking action to cut red tape.

The latest Tasmanian Red Tape Audit Report confirms 84 per cent of the 125 identified red tape issues have now been resolved, equating to more than 100 red tape reforms.

A second tranche of red tape reduction reforms is underway and it will improve permit and approval processes underpinning residential and commercial developments from concept to completion.

It will also deliver a more streamlined and timely regulatory approval process to build affordable new homes and create jobs through business investment.

It is unbelievable that after six years in opposition, Labor still has no long-term plan, no costed alternative Budget, no economic credibility, and one measly idea.

Tasmanians should not forget that under Labor our state was ranked dead last overall in the CommSec State of the State Report for eight consecutive reports, from July 2012 to March 2014.

We have turned that around, but there is more to do, and that is why we are investing a record $3.7 billion in job creating infrastructure over four years, which will underpin 10,000 jobs.
