Leadership in nursing scholarship awarded to senior Department of Health Nursing Officer

Lisa Vilé, from the Department’s Chief Nursing and Midwifery Office, was awarded the 2020 Bonnie Boezeman scholarship by Chief Executive Women (CEW) today which will allow her to complete a Master of Healthcare Leadership at Southern Cross University.

The announcement comes on International Day of the Nurse 2020 where nurses across the world are recognised for their tireless commitment to the health and wellbeing of their communities.

Lisa is a Senior Nursing Officer at the Department where she is involved in leading, planning and executing key strategies and policies for the nursing and midwifery workforce in Western Australia. She has more than 20 years of experience in Australia and the United Kingdom, mostly within the critical care environment, an area of nursing which remains her first passion.

Dr Robina Redknap, Western Australia’s Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, has described Lisa as a deserving recipient of the scholarship.

“We are proud that Lisa was awarded this opportunity over a strong pool of 80 other applicants across Australia,” she said.

“Lisa is a talented nurse who is dedicated to her profession and this course will extend her current knowledge in evidence-based care and build upon her skills in policy development and leadership of health professionals in a multidisciplinary and increasingly complex environment.

“Development opportunities like this help equip our team to effectively support the nursing and midwifery workforce of Western Australia.”

The Bonnie Boezeman scholarship was launched last year by CEW in honour of their founding member, Bonnie Boezeman AO to help female nurses to develop their leadership skills and grow the nursing sector.

The Master of Healthcare Leadership course at Southern Cross University is designed to equip participants with the skills to help multidisciplinary healthcare teams excel under strategic and thoughtful leadership.
