Loved-up couples have leaped to secure a February 29 wedding, setting two Brisbane Registry records and surpassing Valentine’s Day for marriage bookings.
With all 20 ceremony timeslots booked at the 32nd-floor Brisbane Registry in Ann Street, it will be the most weddings conducted on a weekday at the plush venue with unrivalled panoramic views across Greater Brisbane.
Seven weddings are also scheduled at Brisbane Powerhouse, an alternative marriage venue for high-demand dates in 2024, making it the highest number of Brisbane Registry weddings booked on February 29.
Ensuring everything runs smoothly are five experienced celebrants who will conduct the 27 ceremonies.
The first ceremony will start from 9am at the Brisbane Registry (10am for Brisbane Powerhouse) while the last ceremonies will start at 4pm.
The increased demand for a February 29 wedding this year means the number of couples exchanging vows is almost double the number of Brisbane Registry nuptials than the corresponding day in 2020, when there were 14 ceremonies.
And it’s more than three times that of 2016, when just eight couples said, “I do” at the Brisbane Registry.
The 20 weddings at the Brisbane Registry on February 29 will be conducted across two dedicated ceremony rooms on the 32nd floor.
In comparison to February 29 bookings, there were 19 Brisbane Registry weddings set down for Valentine’s Day, 12 at the Registry and seven at Brisbane Powerhouse.
While the number of Valentine’s Day ceremonies was eight fewer than this year’s leap year phenomenon, it was a vast increase on the 11 weddings conducted on February 14 last year at the Brisbane Registry.
