The City of Greater Geelong is pleased to announce the commencement of the Leopold Tennis Pavilion Redevelopment project (LeopoldMemorial Reserve, on the corner of Melaluka Road and Bellarine Highway), ushering in a new era of excellence for the local tennis community.
This initiative is set to transform the Leopold tennis pavilion, ensuring it meets community needs, offering enhanced amenities, modernised infrastructure, and an elevated experience for players and spectators alike.
To commemorate the commencement of the project, Mayor Trent Sullivan, Councillor Jim Mason and Councillor Elise Wilkinson and Member for Bellarine, Alison Marchant MP visited the Leopold Tennis Club.
The upgrade was made possible thanks to $720,000 contributed by the City of Greater Geelong and $1 million from Victorian Government’s Sport and Recreation 2022-2023 Local Community Sport and Recreation Projects fund.
Key highlights of the redevelopment project include:
- Modernised facilities: the new pavilion will feature a social space, kiosk/kitchen, internal and external storage, female-friendly club amenities including showers, toilets and accessible public toilet, ensuring a comfortable and convenient experience for players and visitors. An accessible car bay will also be constructed.
- New local playground: the existing playground will be removed and a new local playground constructed at the south end of the Leopold Memorial Reserve. The existing two public toilets, hit up wall and pavilion will be demolished. The new playground will be built mid-February next year.
The Tennis Club will also vacate the existing pavilion building in November prior to demolition.
A temporary public toilet will be provided on the reserve and be available to use for the public until the building is complete and new public toilets as part of the new pavilion are available to use, at the completion of the project.
