HMAS Perth has set sail from Fleet Base West in Western Australia to commence a regional presence deployment throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
During her deployment, Perth will undertake training, exercises and other engagements alongside Australia’s partners and allies in the Indo-Pacific, contributing to the security of the region.
Perth conducted a significant workup period before deploying, with crew members undertaking mariner skills and unit readiness evaluations.
The ship’s company are prepared to respond to a broad spectrum of scenarios, including damage control, anti-submarine and surface warfare, and flying operations.
Commanding Officer Perth Commander Dylan White said the ship’s company met each challenge with professionalism and pride.
“I am immensely proud of the crew and the way they have supported each other during our workup period,” Commander White said.
“Even before leaving the wharf, deployments require significant commitment from our people to ensure we are ready to meet the tasks we are directed to undertake in support of Australia and its national interests.”
Deployments come with mixed emotions. For some this is business as usual, for others this will be their first time leaving the safety and familiarity of the Australian station.
Seaman Kaelan Cooper said he was excited to get to sea so early in his career.
“Having only completed training earlier this year, I am excited to get to deploy and do my job operationally,” Seaman Cooper said.
“While I am excited about the work aspect, I am also keen for the port visits and to experience new places and new cultures.”
Regional presence deployments play a vital role in Australia’s security and prosperity by enhancing cooperation and relationships with partners and allies and developing capability to preserve the rules-based international order.
