LGH Heating And Cooling Upgrades Complete In Ward 5D

Tasmanian Government

Major upgrades of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) have been completed, with the next stage of upgrades now underway.

Since works began in June 2025, the project has delivered the installation of ducted heating and air conditioning directly into 84 rooms across Wards 4O, 6D and 5D.

Construction has now also started on Ward 3D.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Bridget Archer, said the Government recognised how important these upgrades were to staff working within the hospital and patients requiring care, particularly during the hotter months.

“We are fixing these longstanding heating and cooling issues to ensure patients, staff and visitors have a safe and comfortable experience when they are in hospital,” Minister Archer said.

“Delivering these types of critical system upgrades within a working hospital is a highly complex task.

“The upgrades are being carefully staged and sequenced across wards to minimise disruptions to clinical services and maintain continuity of care.

Works on Ward 3D have now commenced and are expected to be finished during September this year. Ward 4D will then follow as the final stage of these progressive HVAC upgrades.

All HVAC upgrades works are expected to be complete by early 2027.

Each floor’s new systems are being commissioned as works are completed, delivering immediate benefits to those areas.
