Liberals and Nationals to oppose Labor’s crushing new housing tax

Liberal Party Victoria

The Liberals and Nationals will oppose Labor’s crushing housing tax in the Parliament.

This crushing new tax, which is the 41st new or increased tax since Labor was elected, will smash home-buyers already drowning under the weight of spiralling house prices.

The new tax will increase new house prices by an average of $20,000 and is real kick in the guts to Victorians looking to purchase a new home.

With the recent changes in the balance of power in the Legislative Council, we are hopeful that we can stop this crushing new tax from becoming law.

Leader of the Opposition Matthew Guy said the Liberals and Nationals will stand up for home-buyers by opposing the tax.

“We will fight this crushing new tax tooth and nail, on behalf of all Victorians seeking to enter the housing market or buy a new home.”

“This new tax will crush the dreams and aspirations of tens of thousands of Victorians who are going to pay the price of Labor’s $24 billion of waste and complete budget incompetence.

“Victorians can never get ahead when they keep getting dragged down by this incompetent Labor Government.

“Only the Liberals and Nationals have a guarantee of no new taxes, and a clear plan to recover and rebuild.”

Shadow Treasurer David Davis added that Labor had broken its promise of no new taxes before forming Government.

“It’s the same old Labor – they waste their money, and they come after yours.”

“There’s no doubt that the state budget is a sea of red ink following 7 years of monumental Labor waste and incompetence.

“Labor promised no new taxes before they were elected, yet have now raised or put in place 41 new taxes on Victorians.

“Labor waste, and you pay.”

If Labor’s crushing housing tax passes Parliament, only a Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will repeal it, and back young families to buy their first home.
