Liberals supporting local traders in Ashburton

Ashwood residents, shoppers and visitors will enjoy an enhanced local shopping experience under a commitment announced today by the State Liberals.

Local shopping strips and small businesses have been the hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Andrews Labor Government has refused to provide the level of support needed to get small businesses in Victoria going again.

That’s why a Liberal Government would provide a grant of $50,000 to upgrade Ashburton Village, assisting the Ashburton Traders Association with strip revitalisation.

This commitment is part of the Liberals’ $30 million Local Shopping Strip Recovery Plan, which will support local communities across the state.

Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party and Shadow Minister for Small Business, David Southwick, said the best way to move forward was by backing local initiatives in local communities.

“The first step is to give local traders positive and practical support so they can stay open and grow their business.”

State Liberal Candidate for Ashwood, Asher Judah, said this commitment was an exciting step forward for local small businesses who have done it tough throughout the pandemic.

“Our grant will provide financial support for the 2023 Ashburton Community Festival, facade improvements on the High Street rail bridge, and assistance with local repairs and painting.

“These investments will encourage local shopping and boost the pride and appeal of our local shopping village.

“Only the Liberals have a plan to give small businesses across the state the confidence and certainty they need.”
