Liberals to blame for Derwent stink

Tasmanian Labor
  • Hodgman and Gutwein have failed on water and sewerage
  • Mac Point stinks, and Liberals are at fault
  • Tasmanians rightly are disgusted after six megalitres of raw sewage and stormwater was flushed into the Derwent River on Sunday.

Shadow Environment, Parks and Heritage Minister Alison Standen said this is yet another failure of the Liberal Minority Government.

“Peter Gutwein promised to fix Tasmania’s water and sewerage woes,” Ms Standen said.

    “He has achieved nothing.

“The Macquarie Point Sewerage Treatment Plant is a monument to the Liberal Government’s failure to progress the transformation of that site.

“The sewerage works should have been moved already.

“Releasing two Olympic size swimming pools of sewerage into the Derwent is a disgrace and a major threat to the Tasmanian brand.

“Labor calls on the Government to guarantee that our waterways are safe for users as we get closer to summer.”
