The city’s library service will shut down from 5pm Friday, February 9, as equipment is transferred to the new temporary library being built on the ground floor of Council’s Administrative Centre.

The library service is expected to reopen from the Administrative Centre in early March, and construction on the new $15 million library is slated to begin in mid-2024.

Council’s General Manager, Jay Nankivell, said Council would look to get the library service back up and running as soon as possible.

“We apologise to all library users for any inconvenience, but the move to the temporary library will allow us to finally get the new library construction underway,” said Mr Nankivell.

“We’ll be aiming to complete the move as quickly as we can, and if we’re able to reopen the service a little earlier than expected we’ll be sure to let everyone know.”

In the meantime, library users are encouraged do any last-minute borrowing this week before the service closes.

Those with outstanding loans or items that will be due for return during the closure period can make returns at the Visitor Information Centre, or simply hold onto them until the library service reopens.
