Lighting upgrade works to commence at Griffith Regional Sports Centre

Griffith Regional Sports Centre advises that lighting upgrade works at the hockey pitch and athletics track will commence on Friday, 3 July 2026.

As part of the project, the existing lighting system will be disconnected to allow for the safe removal and replacement of lighting infrastructure. As a result, there will be no lighting available at the hockey pitch or athletics track during the works.

To ensure the safety of contractors, staff and facility users, the hockey pitch and athletics track will be closed from Friday 3 July to Friday 17 July inclusive.

Griffith Regional Sports Centre Manager, Che’ Jenkins said the upgrade would provide long-term benefits for facility users.

“These works have been carefully scheduled to minimise disruption, with the closure coinciding with the athletics off-season and the Griffith Hockey Association’s school holiday competition break,” Mr Jenkins said.

“We thank our user groups and the wider community for their patience while these improvements are completed.”

The closure applies only to the athletics track and hockey pitch. All other areas of the Griffith Regional Sports Centre will continue to operate as normal.

Griffith City Council thanks the community for its patience and understanding while these important improvements are carried out.

Works will commence on Friday 3 July and pause over the weekend allowing Griffith Hockey Association competition matches to proceed on Saturday 4 July as scheduled.
