The new dual degree in computer science expands RMIT’s transnational education partnership with BITS Pilani.
Delivered through the BITS-RMIT Higher Education Academy, which is a ground-breaking partnership between the two leading universities in India and Australia, the new Bachelor of Computer Science program will prepare students for the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
The program will follow the Academy’s established 2+2 study model, enabling students to complete the first two years at BITS Pilani in India, followed by two years at RMIT’s Melbourne campus.
Graduates will receive dual qualifications, a B.E. Computer Science from BITS Pilani and a Bachelor of Computer Science from RMIT, offering them a strong competitive advantage in the global job market.
The program provides a robust foundation in artificial intelligence, machine learning, cybersecurity, cloud computing, software engineering, and data science, alongside experiential learning through industry projects, programming studios, innovation bootcamps, and capstone assignments.
The curriculum combines academic rigour with real-world application, ensuring that graduates are industry-ready and future-focused.
The launch marks the fourth intake of the BITS-RMIT Higher Education Academy, expanding its portfolio to six programs, with the others focused on engineering.
Established in 2023, the Academy has become a benchmark for globally integrated, industry-aligned education.
Students enrolled in the new program will benefit from internationally recognised credentials, with RMIT’s Bachelor of Computer Science accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) under the Seoul Accord, providing global recognition across leading economies.
In addition, the program offers a structured transition pathway, including academic mentoring and cultural orientation, with a fully funded immersion visit to Melbourne during the first year to prepare students for their international journey.
Professor Alec Cameron, Vice-Chancellor and President at RMIT, said that the new program marks an important milestone in the BITS-RMIT partnership.
“The continued growth of the BITS-RMIT partnership draws on our combined strength in STEM training and our commitment to giving students access to outstanding, industry-connected education in one of the world’s most in-demand fields.”
Professor V. Ramgopal Rao, Group Vice-Chancellor at BITS Pilani, said the program aligns with the demands of the future workforce.
“This program reflects our vision to create globally relevant and future-focused learning pathways. In partnership with RMIT, we are equipping students with cutting-edge technical skills, international exposure, and industry experience needed to thrive in the digital economy. It is an important step towards nurturing globally competent technology leaders.”
By combining academic excellence with international mobility and industry relevance, the BITS-RMIT Higher Education Academy continues to create pathways for students to succeed in a rapidly evolving, technology-driven world.
