The State Government’s Family and Business (FaB) Support mentors program has joined forces with the Australian Lions Foundation to deliver $100,000 worth of financial aid to drought-affected farmers and farming families just in time for Christmas.
Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstone has welcomed the support from the Australian Lions Foundation, which will make vouchers available through selected local Lions Clubs to assist with general expenses, such as groceries and other consumables.
“It has been a challenging year for many farmers impacted severely by drought and it is important we do everything possible to assist these farmers and their families during this difficult time,” said Minister Whetstone.
“The State Government is working with the combined C1 and C2 Lions Districts in South Australia to help deliver financial support from the Australian Lions Foundation to those who need it most.
“South Australia’s nine FaB Mentors will assist local Lions Clubs in drought affected areas to identify recipients and distribute vouchers.
“The FaB Support program continues to provide vital services with a team of mentors available to meet, listen to and connect individuals and farming families with appropriate services and programs.
“The Rural Financial Counselling Service remains an important avenue for primary producers and small rural businesses experiencing financial difficulties, or with concern about the financial impacts of the drought, to receive advice.”
In addition, the South Australian Country Women’s Association is working with the Australian Red Cross and Rural Business Support to provide financial assistance of up to $3,000 for farmers in drought-affected areas of the state; while Rural-Aid is undertaking hay and fodder drops as well as providing financial assistance.
