Liquor Seizure – Central Australia

Northern Territory Police have seized a large quantity of alcohol destined for remote communities in Central Australia.

Ti Tree Police members reported the seizure of 736 standard drinks of alcohol that was destined for a remote Central Australian community.

Police stopped a vehicle travelling towards the community about 10:30am this morning and seized the alcohol. Three female occupants of the vehicle, aged 34, 26 and 53, will face court at a later date.

They have been charged with the offence of Bring Liquor into a Restricted Area. Their vehicle has also been seized.

Acting Superintendent Daniel Bell said “The nexus between alcohol and harm in our remote communities is extremely clear and this type of behaviour and offending is extremely disappointing.

“The proactive work undertaken by Ti Tree, Tennant Creek and other Southern Desert Police Stations is commendable and I thank them for their tireless work and their efforts to protect our communities from harm.”
