Council has endorsed the first of several Local Area Movement Plans which will be rolled out across Hobsons Bay in the coming months to relieve congestion, improve accessibility and provide safe passage for the community whether they are walking, cycling or driving.
Developed following extensive community consultation, the Western LAMP addresses key challenges and constraints in the existing transport network throughout the western region of Hobsons Bay. It will ensure access, connectivity and movement are given greater consideration when planning future investment in transport infrastructure and transport safety programs and will help set an agenda for advocating to other levels of government and key stakeholders.
The Western LAMP, which takes in the suburbs of Altona Meadows, Laverton and Seabrook, aims to deliver a program for traffic improvement works including three key objectives:
- A program for key infrastructure improvement works
- Identification of advocacy priorities
- A safer road environment
Some of the actions include: traffic calming works in Alma Avenue and Hall Street, Altona Meadows; improving footpaths and cycling connections throughout Laverton; and traffic calming measures on Shane Avenue and Seabrook Boulevard in Seabrook.

As part of the development of the Western LAMP, a number of key major transport improvement advocacy items were identified that would reduce congestion and improve safety. These projects include road improvement works on Point Cook Road, Central Avenue and Queen Street, an upgrade of the Point Cook Road and Central Avenue intersection, upgrade of freeway ramps and the improvement of public transport connections.
Community consultation for Northern LAMP package, covering the northern area of Hobsons bay, is due to begin in the August.
