Community Safety Month is on again in Hume City, encouraging locals to get involved to learn how we can keep our city and each other safe.

Community Safety Month is held annually in October, with local councils hosting safety events that encourage residents to play their part when it comes to keeping everyone safe.

In Hume, this means having an active, harmonious, safe city where everyone who lives, works or visits can be involved without fear, or risk of injury.

Hume City Council’s commitment to ensuring everyone has this right is driven by four key themes: community safety in the public realm; safety around the home; transport safety; and family violence and women’s safety.

The four themes have been developed as part of Safe in Hume: Our Community Safety plan 2020 – 2022.

Across October, a number of Council held events will support Hume locals in exploring these themes as a reminder of how we can all do our bit at home, in the workplace and amongst other community members.

Activities include:

  • Wiser Driver – a refresher course to build on your driving experience and keep you safe on the roads

  • Smart Phone Tips and Safety Session – learn how to use your phone’s apps and features to get the most out of your device

  • Safe Plates Day – secure your car’s number plates from theft

  • Internet Safety Workshop – tips on how to bank, shop and stay safe online from scams

  • Learn How to Save a Life Workshop
