RAAF Base Edinburgh in South Australia transformed into a hub of excitement and exploration as it opened its doors to the public on March 23.
The free event allowed visitors to get up close and personal with an array of ADF aircraft and vehicles, and meet with uniformed members – a rare glimpse into the cutting-edge technology that drives the nation’s capabilities.
Commanding Officer 24 Squadron Wing Commander Craig Keane said the South Australian community had a long connection with the Australian military and the open day was an opportunity to continue this engagement.
“There was a range of exciting Defence capabilities on display, showcasing some of the Air Force’s and Army’s latest air and land capabilities,” Wing Commander Keane said.
The event featured a range of interactive displays, including Air Force static aircraft – a Pilatus PC-21 and P-8A Poseidon.
As guests explored the grounds, they immersed themselves in interactions with Army vehicles, ADF Careers, Defence Work Force Program and many other stalls.
Wing Commander Keane said ADF members were highly trained professionals and were among the world’s best at what they do.
“The open day provided a great opportunity to meet Defence personnel and learn more about the wide range of career pathways and options,” he said.
More open days are planned for bases around the country.
