Lottery Ticket Sellers Boosted By Increased Commissions

  • Minister for Consumer Affairs, Gaming and Liquor Regulation

Hundreds of small businesses will be better off after the Andrews Labor Government made changes to the way lottery tickets are sold.

Around 750 news and lottery agents in Victoria – many which are small businesses – will now reap the benefits of increased commission rates through digital ticket sales.

As it currently stands lottery agents do not receive commissions from digital ticket sales.

The overall entry price for lotteries will increase by 1 per cent, meaning a 12-game entry will see an increase of five cents.

Businesses will see an increase in the maximum commission rate for all lotteries except Draw Lotteries and Instant-Scratch-its.

Tabcorp’s new strategy aims to reward distributors for their role in the conduct of public lotteries.

As noted by Minister for Gaming and Liquor Regulation Marlene Kairouz

“We are supporting hundreds of small businesses by putting more money back in their pockets.”

“Tabcorp has been running our public lotteries for over 60 years – this is about rewarding ticket sellers and rewarding them for their contribution.”

As noted by Australian Lottery and Newsagents Association General Manager Gary Carter

“We have greatly appreciated the support provided by the Andrews Government and the important and helpful changes it has made to the Lottery Licence.”

“This has enabled a review of commissions that led to improved remuneration opportunities for all our member small businesses with lotteries, both in Victoria and Australia-wide.”
