Lotterywest grant funds new tech for Bibbulmun Track

  • Lotterywest grant of $81,400 will boost online resources for Bibbulmun Track users and volunteers
  • Funding will contribute to development of a new website to improve information about the Bibbulmun Track
  • A new portal for volunteers will enable them to report on track conditions
  • Hikers and volunteers who use the Bibbulmun Track will soon benefit from new online resources to help make their journey easier.

An $81,400 Lotterywest Grant, presented to the Bibbulmun Track Foundation, will contribute to the development of a new website, enabling visitors to better plan their trek.

The website will also include a new portal for the Bibbulmun Track Foundation’s 400 volunteers, allowing them to connect and report on track conditions.

The Bibbulmun Track Foundation is an incorporated, not-for-profit organisation established to provide support for the management and maintenance of the Bibbulmun Track.

The Foundation promotes the Track to potential walkers and maintains it through a volunteer maintenance program.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Tony Buti:

“The Bibbulmun Track is an icon of Western Australia and like many trails throughout our State, it’s growing in popularity.

“Education and preparation is key to a safe hike so this website will be an extremely valuable resource to bushwalkers who want to attempt one of the world’s best tracks.

“Western Australia is currently enjoying a huge resurgence in bushwalking, with participation increasing by more than 45 per cent in the four years to June 2020.”

As stated by Volunteering Minister Reece Whitby:

“The Bibbulmun Track Foundation is a great example of volunteering bringing out the best in people. The members have a shared interest in the history of the Bibbulmun Track and in promoting it so others can enjoy it too.

“The sheer length of the Bibbulmun Track means volunteers play a vital role in helping to promote and maintain the track and educate others on how to make the best use of it.

“The Bibbulmun Track Foundation’s new website will vastly improve available valuable resources including education, safety information and trip planning, so more people can learn about this wonderful trail and connect with the natural environment.”
