Macquarie University to embed CA Program into new Masters degree

In partnership with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (Chartered Accountants ANZ), Macquarie University (MQ) has today announced that its Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) will incorporate the professional study requirements of the Chartered Accountants (CA) qualification.

This exclusive NSW pilot ensures MQ students can graduate with an internationally recognised professional qualification in addition to their postgraduate degree.

Students who complete the new pathway can become provisional members of Chartered Accountants ANZ during their final year of study and be eligible to apply for CA membership upon successful completion of three years of approved employment.

“We’re thrilled to be furthering our ongoing relationship with Chartered Accountants ANZ by offering our students a unique and exclusive pathway to becoming CA qualified,” said Professor Rahat Munir, Macquarie Business School’s Head of Accounting and Corporate Governance.

“Students who complete the pathway as part of their MPA will gain a significant head start in their professional accounting careers. The embedded CA Program ensures students will receive extensive academic support while completing all the academic requirements, including the CA exams”.

Chartered Accountants ANZ Group Executive of Education and Learning Simon Hann said this is the third partnership of its kind following earlier successful pilots in New Zealand and Western Australia.

“This forms part of our ongoing refresh of the CA Program to ensure it remains future-focused and supports the capabilities sought by employers,” said Han.

“By broadening the entry pathways into the program, we are attracting the next generation of talent as well as increasing the diversity of the profession.

“The strong theoretical foundation of the Masters degree go hand-in-hand with the technical and applied knowledge of the CA Program and connects students to a 1,000,000 strong global knowledge network.”

CA ANZ is the only professional accounting body approved as a Higher Education Provider by the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), Australia’s independent national regulator of the higher education sector.

Macquarie University is ranked among the top 100 institutions in the world for accounting and finance (QS World University Rankins by Subject, 2019).

This new Masters degree will be available in Session 1, February 2021. For more information or to apply for MQ’s Master of Professional Accounting with a Specialisation in CA Studies, click here.
