One hundred parking sensors are being installed in selected on-street public car parking spaces in the St Albans and Sunshine town centres.
The 50 sensors in Alfrieda Street, St Albans, and 50 in Devonshire Road, Sunshine, will be switched on this week.
Mayor of Brimbank, Cr Lucinda Congreve said the introduction of parking sensors would help with turnover of parking spaces in our busy town centres.
“We all know how frustrating it can sometimes be to find a parking space when you really need one – especially at peak times. It’s even more frustrating when other drivers don’t observe the rules and overstay parking time limits.
“Parking limits are there for a reason. They make it easier for drivers to find a public parking spaces in areas of high demand, which ultimately allows more visitors and customers to flow through our busy town centres which benefits local business.
“There will be no changes to your obligations as a driver. You still need to observe the limit on the parking sign.”
Cr Congreve said parking sensors are an efficient way for Council to better manage parking in busy areas and to ensure parking spaces are available for all visitors, customers and residents.
“Parking sensors will help improve Council efficiency by not having to rely so heavily on manual chalking of car tyres to monitor use of timed parking spaces.
“They will also help Council to better understand parking use and demand within our town centres.
“There will be no change to how parking infringements are issued,” Cr Congreve said.
Temporary signage will be installed in areas where parking sensors are in operation.
