A special ribbon cutting event at Sunshine Coast Council’s Maleny Library today (12 August) unveiled the venue’s contemporary and vibrant new look.
Division 5 Councillor Winston Johnston said Maleny Library now had more attractive and diverse spaces for people to enjoy while reading their favourite book or researching their latest assignment.
“It’s wonderful to see Maleny Library looking so fresh. The library is an integral part of our local community,” Cr Johnston said.
“The refreshed library celebrates our local landscape and hinterland lifestyle through the colour scheme and eye-catching images of local landmarks – the design truly brings the space to life.
“Other features include new carpet, shelving, signage, paint throughout and furniture. With more spaces to BYO devices and be immersed in a good book.
“The new layout is designed to maximise space, functionality and flow throughout the library, while drawing people in and encouraging them to explore the collections.
“We’ve adopted a similar approach for our upgrades to Coolum, Beerwah and Maroochydore libraries in recent years, creating a better customer experience.”
Community Portfolio Councillor David Law said the refreshed library provided an engaging and flexible environment for the community.
“Sunshine Coast Council’s Libraries are places of imagination, growth and learning – and we hope that this refurbishment will provide customers with a renewed sense of inspiration,” Cr Law said.
“Through the Sunshine Coast Community Strategy council wants to see a strong community that is connected, engaged and inclusive – a place where we can thrive together. Our Sunshine Coast Libraries tick those boxes.
“The Maleny Library refurbishment demonstrates council’s continued commitment to investing in library operations and infrastructure to ensure they remain relevant and responsive to new and existing audiences, and continue to have a positive, ongoing influence on our diverse communities.”
