Melton Crime Investigation Unit detectives have arrested a man after he allegedly attempted to steal a car in Deanside on Sunday night.
It is alleged a man jumped over a fence to access a residential village on Mushu Street about 11pm.
He allegedly entered a BMW sedan parked in the driveway of a unit before he was confronted by the owner.
The man exited the car and fled the scene on foot.
Police located and arrested the man nearby in Gerlzonda Avenue, Deanside about 11.25pm.
During the arrest, police allegedly located knuckle dusters, a butterfly knife, and drugs in his possession.
He was transported to hospital for assessment and released with intent to summons.
It is expected the 26-year-old Deer Park man will be charged with assault and resist police, possess methylamphetamine, possess prohibited and controlled weapons.
He will appear before a court at a later date.
