Man arrested as police uncover stockpile of imitation firearms

Prahran Divisional Response Unit detectives arrested a St Kilda man, after 18 imitation firearms and several ammunition magazines were seized from his property on Friday 28 April.

Acting on a community tip-off that a man was allegedly in possession of an imitation longarm rifle, police were quick to act, locate and arrest the 33-year-old man before conducting a peaceful search at a residential property on Greeves Street, St Kilda.

During the search police seized:

– 12 imitation longarm firearms including semi-automatics, two shot guns, and a sniper rifle.

– Six imitation handguns including a sub-machine gun, a silencer, and a replica Glock.

– Multiple longarm scopes.

– Various ammunition magazines.

The 33-year-old was taken to the Prahran Police Station where he was interviewed regarding the possession of the imitation firearms. He was later released pending summons.

Quotes attributed to Prahran Divisional Response Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Moreland:

“When it comes down to it, whether genuine or imitation, the use of a firearm in the community will leave people feeling alarmed, threatened, and vulnerable.

“Tip-offs are an extremely useful way we can protect our community, and, in this case, it has led to a cache of weapons now off the street and out of the hands of those who may seek to cause harm.

“We strongly encourage anyone with knowledge or suspicions about someone in possession of a firearm to report the information to Crime Stoppers.”
