Man arrested over hit-run crash with police – Glenelg North, South Australia

A man has been arrested following a hit run crash involving police at Glenelg North late last month.

Just before midnight on Saturday 26 January, Police were conducting a random breath testing station on Tapleys Hill Road when a red Holden Commodore sedan attempted to avoid the station by turning into a back street.

A marked and unmarked police car followed the Holden and located it into Buckle Street which was a no through road. Police approached the car and opened the passenger door as the driver attempted to do a u-turn.

The driver accelerated and collided with the front of the unmarked police car causing damage to the front bumper and wheel. The car also narrowly missed a cameraman who was filming for the ‘RBT’ television series.

The Holden drove off and was last seen heading south on Tapleys Hill Road. No one was injured as a result of the crash.

On Friday 1 February, police located the Holden sedan at Somerton Park and seized it for examination.

As a result of investigations, police charged a 24-year-old man from Burton today with acts likely to cause harm, driving disqualified, speed dangerous, contravening a direction to stop and failing to exchange particulars. He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court tomorrow.
