Man assaulted and threatened before crashing into shop – Punchbowl

Police are investigating after a man was assaulted in Punchbowl today.

Shortly after 11am (Thursday 27 July 2023), police and emergency services were called to a fast-food restaurant at The Boulevarde at Punchbowl, after reports a vehicle had crashed into a shop.

Police have been told a 30-year-old man was leaving a gym nearby and walking to his vehicle when an unknown man – wearing a balaclava – approached him and forced himself inside the 30-year-old’s vehicle.

The 30-year-old started driving away and the pair wrestled inside the car for a short time, before the vehicle then crashed into the front window of the store.

Both men fled the scene prior to police arrival, before the 30-year-old returned a short time later.

He was assessed at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics however he did not require hospital treatment.

Detectives from Campsie Police Area Command have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Initial inquiries suggest three men – all wearing balaclavas – were seen fleeing the scene in a white van.
