Man charged after police vehicles rammed in Melbourne’s southeastern suburbs

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged pursuit through Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs on Thursday morning.

Police spotted an allegedly stolen vehicle on Queens Parade about 7.20am, before it took off at speed citybound on Queens Road.

The Holden Colorado was followed to a park in South Yarra, where it was allegedly seen driving towards pedestrians, before driving back to St Kilda.

The vehicle allegedly collided with two parked cars on Queens Parade.

The Holden was followed through Elsternwick into Brighton, where it allegedly drove onto footpaths and rammed two police vehicles.

The car came to a stop on New Street, near the intersection with North Road, where it collided with another vehicle.

The vehicle was allegedly stolen from Drumcondra on 25 October.

A 24-year-old Preston man was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

He’s been charged with four counts of aggravated offence of intentionally expose emergency worker to risk by driving, reckless conduct endangering life, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, dangerous driving while pursued by police, theft of motor vehicle, fail to stop on police direction and unlicensed driving.

He has been remanded in custody to face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 9 November.
