A man will face court today following a police pursuit and weapons seizure in the state’s far south-west yesterday.
In late June 2026, officers attached to Barrier Police District commenced an investigation into the alleged possession of prohibited weapons in the Balranald area.
Following inquiries, about 12.30pm yesterday (Thursday 2 July 2026), police attempted to stop a utility on Harben Street, Balranald.
When the driver – a 63-year-old man – allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated, with the man allegedly reversing at speed before colliding with the front of a police vehicle.
The man was arrested and subjected to a search, during which police allegedly located and seized a folding knife and a replica pistol with a laser attachment.
Police will allege about 9.30am on Monday 29 June 2026, the man pointed a replica pistol with a laser attachment at a woman – aged in her 20s – in Balranald. No injuries were reported.
Following inquiries, about 1.50pm yesterday (Thursday 2 July 2026), police executed a search warrant at a home on Harben Street, Balranald, allegedly locating and seizing a knife within a sheath.
The 63-year-old was taken to Balranald Police Station, where he was charged with 10 offences,
- Use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence
- Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal)
- Possess unauthorised pistol
- Custody of knife in public place
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly
- Unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR or MR
- Fail to notify change of residential address as prescribed
- Not reverse vehicle safely
- Drive uninsured vehicle
- Owner use vehicle on road/road related area motor vehicle tax unpaid.
He was refused bail to face Bail Division Court 4 today (Friday 3 July 2026).
