Man charged over public place shooting – Murwillumbah

A man will appear in court tomorrow charged following an investigation into an alleged public-place shooting in the state’s north.

About 12.30am today (Thursday 6 July 2023), emergency services were called to an address on Prospero Street, South Murwillumbah, following reports of gun shots.

Officers attached to Tweed-Byron Police District attended and established a number of shots had been discharged into a property. There were no reports of injuries.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, a 35-year-old man was arrested at a home on Hall Drive, Murwillumbah, about 12pm today.

He was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was charged with possess shortened firearm without authority, armed with intent commit indictable offence, fire firearm at dwelling-house with disregard for safety, use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm.

He was refused bail to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court tomorrow (Friday 7 July 2023).
