Man charged with firearm offences after siege in Willmot

A man wanted for serious firearm offences has been arrested after a police operation in Sydney’s west.

On Wednesday 28 November 2018, police attempted to stop a motor vehicle on Van Diemen Avenue, Willmot.

The driver, alleged to be a 29-year-old man, stopped and ran from the vehicle carrying two bags. He was not located.

Inside the vehicle, police allegedly located a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition. Officers from Mt Druitt Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

The next day, police executed a search warrant at a storage shed in St Marys, seizing four unregistered shotguns, a rifle, as well as scopes, a high powered electronic control device, and a large amount of ammunition.

Following inquiries, about 11.40am today (Friday 28 December 2018), police attended a home on Beagle Place, Willmot, to arrest the 29-year-old man.

The man fled into a rear shed and refused to leave. A perimeter was established and specialist police attended.

A woman and child exited the home uninjured.

About 4pm, the man was arrested without incident. He was taken to Riverstone Police Station and charged with possess unauthorised firearm, possess unregistered firearm – not prohibited firearm (x4), possess shortened firearm (not pistol), possess ammunition without permit, possess prohibited weapon without permit.

He was also charged with intimidation and use carriage service to menace, relating to a prior incident.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Saturday 29 December 2018).
