Man dies after being pulled from water in North Bondi

A man has died after being pulled from water in Sydney’s east today.

Just before 4pm (Thursday 18 August 2022), emergency services were called to North Bondi, following reports a diver was unconscious.

Police have been told six men were free diving and spear fishing in waters off North Bondi when one of the men failed to resurface.

The group went to the man’s aid and retrieved him from the water, before commencing CPR on rocks nearby.

The man was taken to shore by lifeguards, where he was further treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition, where he later died. He is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged 29.

Five other men were assisted from the rocks by a Careflight helicopter and were treated for shock.

Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
